Next bitch will do a big cleaning??😨😨 Common grammar mistakes

 

One of the most common mistakes made by foreign learners of Korean is misusing particles.

In Korean, particles determine the role of each sentence component, so using them incorrectly can completely change the meaning.

Another mistake happens when translating English expressions directly into Korean. This also happens when Koreans write in English. (I'm one of them. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️)

However, as in the example above, we need to be careful not to create phrases that could lead to misunderstandings, right?

What the person originally meant was, 

"I will do a big cleaning next year."

Since "내년" is translated as "next year" in English, they literally translated it as "다음 년" (next year).

The problem is that by adding the particle "이," Koreans would interpret "년" as the subject, and "다음" would be seen as an adjective modifying the subject.

And since "년" can also be used in a derogatory way to refer to a woman (bitch), "다음 년이" ends up meaning "next bitch," not "next year." 😱😱😱😱

In short, this person essentially said,

 "Next bitch will do a big cleaning." 

Can you see the Korean person laughing with "ㅋㅋㅋ" below?

Now, let's take a look at time nouns like "내년."

한국어를 배우는 외국인들이 가장 많이 하는 실수 중 하나가 바로 조사를 잘못 사용하는 것인데요. 

한국어는 조사가 문장 성분을 결정하기 때문에 뜻이 완전히 바뀌어 버리는 경우가 있습니다. 

또 하나는 영어식 표현을 그대로 한글로 옮겨 번역했을 때 일어나는 오류입니다.  이것은 한국인이 영어를 쓸 때도 마찬가지예요.  (저도 그 중 하나입니다. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️)

그렇지만 위의 경우에서 처럼 오해를 낳을 수 있는 말이 되면 안 되겠죠? 

원래 이 분이 하려던 말은 "내년에 대청소를 할 거예요" 입니다. 

영어에서 '내년'을 next year로 표기하기 때문에 문자 그대로 번역하여 "다음 년"이라고 쓰신 거죠.

문제는 여기에 조사 '이'를 붙였기 때문에 한국인에게는 '년'이 주어로 인식되고 '다음'이라는 단어는 주어를 꾸며주는 형용사가 된다는 점입니다. 

그리고 '년'은 여자를 비하하여 말하는 bitch의 뜻도 가지고 있기 때문에 "다음 년이" 는 'next year'가 아니고 'next BITCH'가 되어버리게 되죠. 😱😱😱😱

한마디로 이분은 "Next bitch will do a big cleaning"라고 한 거예요.  바로 밑에 한국분이 "ㅋㅋㅋ"하고 웃는 것이 보이나요?
